One of our patients is quite the poet and the following poem was published as one of the Best Poems and Poets of 2003. Betty has granted us permission to post her poetry. Thank you Betty!
Say Goodnight and Turn Off the Lights
Say goodnight and turn off the lights
When day is done, let it go
A parade of lights in the heavens above
Moonlight, starlight, scattered stardust on angel’s wings
Moonbeam kisses on sleepy eyes, it’s time to say goodnight
Time goes by sometimes swiftly, sometimes slowly,
Sometimes seemingly standing still
Day follows night; night follows day, go with the flow
Don’t get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired
Reach out and touch someone every day
Let go and let God!
Sleep and dream in the warm afterglow of God’s love
Solution to problems, creative inspiration freely flows
Rejuvenating the spirit, free just to be who you are!
Reborn anew in dawn’s early light, Angels singing
Songs of love and glory to God in the highest
It’s time to “Say goodnight and turn off the lights”

Rise and Shine, Look Alive
Rise and Shine, Look Alive, Staying Alive
Live in the moment, celebrate day,
Celebrate life
Blessings abound all around
A field of color flowers wild
The Sun kissed Sunflower, leaving seeds,
For the hungry to feed.
Gentle Breezes blow, Sunlit Dancing Leaves
Among the Whispering Trees –
Birds Singing a Joy Filled Rhapsody of Love –
So sing’s my Soul “How Great Thou Art”
Anger is Toxic to the Soul
When Anger Enters, Forgive and Let it Go!
To the Four Winds that Blow –
Greet the Sunrise and Sunset at Days End
The Moon and Stars Shinning Bright
In slumber a fond Goodnight
Pleasant Dreams delight!
Thank You God for the Good and the Bad
Thank You God for Everything!
Dawns Awakening, Rise and Shine!
